Jujube is a drupe fruit, characterized by milky white pulp surrounding a central hardcore (seed). Jujubes come in different varieties, sizes and shapes, with each fruit measuring approximately 3-6 cm in diameter and ranging in shape from oval, round to cylindrical. The raw jujube has a crunchy texture, a light green skin, and an apple-like sweetness and sour taste. It is a common fruit in winter near the Lunar New Year. It is not only sweet and juicy, but also rich in nutrients and vitamins C, B1 and B2.
The topography of Tianliao in Kaohsiung, Taiwan is relatively dry, with good soil permeability and high minerals. The pear jujubes produced by Tianliao fruit farmers using grass cultivation method and organic fertilizers. They are as tender and juicy as pears, sweet and delicious, so they are called pear jujubes. They also look like green apples, with thin skin and crispy pulp, large and sweet, so it is also called "Taiwan Green Apple".
